Today I am 49. Wow. I really haven’t done anything special for birthdays for a long time. 2 years ago I got a few people together and we went to Carraba’s. It was Jen, Mom and a few people I thought would be friends for a long time.
Now, it’s just Jen. That’s why I don’t have many friends. I just don’t understand people. No one bothered to tell me what I might have done to them; they just stopped talking to me.
I know I was a little crazy when Mom was sick, that’s when I needed friends the most, and they just quit. No two weeks’ notice, just . . . done. When Mom died, they didn’t even bother to show up for the service or text or call to say anything. Enough whining . . .
I visited South Mountain Park. A coworker who lived out here told me not to miss it. He also said to go at night, but you can’t do that anymore, they have gates to keep you out. You get a pretty impressive view of the whole Phoenix metro area. It’s huge. Uncle Kent said it is the 5th largest city in the US. I didn’t fact check that, but he’s a pretty smart guy. And please, look at that sprawl!
I stopped at the ranger station for the park. I wanted to get a map with the hiking trails. They have no information, at all, on paper. You have to scan that square code thingy and get the info on your smartphone. I have a dumb phone, I like my dumb phone. I like not having to pay $30 extra per month to have a smartphone. I haven’t given up; I’m going to visit some of the Arizona visitor’s centers and hope to find something.
The parks mountain road is very twisty. On the way down I had to pull over to let a bicyclist pass me. He came up behind me really fast, and I was following the speed limit and totally wrecked his downhill buzz! He called out thanks as he sped by, probably getting close to 40 mph, or more!
I found a Wendy’s close to where I am staying. It has a wi-fi bar, with power. I will be spending some time there. Plus, I bought a thing they had as a benefit for a local hospital, and I get a free small frosty with any purchase! If the neighbors ever give me their password, I can go online from my house, if not, I will be having free frostys!
Lots of pictures today. I love the sparkly sun shots, I hope you enjoy them!
“Travel has a way of stretching the mind. The stretch comes not from travel’s immediate rewards, the inevitable myriad new sights, smells and sounds, but with experiencing firsthand how others do differently what we believed to be the right and only way.” – Ralph Crawshaw
